Frontiers in Chemistry

Online, free access: http://www.frontiersin.org/Chemistry

Frontiers in Chemistry is a field journal of the "Frontiers in" journal series.

Chemistry is a branch of science that is linked to all other main fields of research. The omnipresence of Chemistry is apparent in our everyday lives from the electronic devices that we all use to communicate, to foods we eat, to our health and well-being, to the different forms of energy that we use. While there are many subtopics and specialties of Chemistry, the fundamental link in all these areas is how atoms, ions, and molecules come together and come apart in what some have come to call the “dance of life”.

All specialty sections of Frontiers in Chemistry are open-access with the goal of publishing outstanding research publications, review articles, commentaries, and ideas about various aspects of Chemistry. The past forms of publication often have specific subdisciplines, most commonly of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistries, but these days those lines and boxes are quite blurry and the silos of those disciplines appear to be eroding. Chemistry is important to both fundamental and applied areas of research and manufacturing, and indeed the outlines of academic versus industrial research are also often artificial. Collaborative research across all specialty areas of Chemistry is highly encouraged and supported as we move forward. These are exciting times and the field of Chemistry is an important and significant contributor to our collective knowledge.

Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology

Online, free access: http://www.frontiersin.org/Cellular_and_Infection_Microbiology

Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology is a specialty journal of the "Frontiers in" journal series.

It stems from the tremendous success of the original Specialty Section of the same name of Frontiers in Microbiology. The new Specialty Journal Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology will keep publishing major and in-depth research findings focused on host-microbe interactions that decipher these interactions from a molecular, biochemical, cell biological or immunological perspective. In addition, molecular bases of microbial pathogenic evolution and adaptation to the host will be considered. Studies should advance our knowledge of the field and the mechanisms involved in host-microbe interaction. Understanding mechanisms of host-microbe interactions shall eventually contribute to the development of new therapies and vaccines.

Studies must focus on microbes involved in intimate modulation/exploitation of host cell processes and immune responses. The microbes include pathogenic bacteria, pathogenic parasites, resident microbiota or endosymbionts. Studies on pathogenic viruses and fungi may also be submitted to the respective Specialty Sections of Frontiers in Microbiology related to these areas of studies. The eukaryotic hosts involved can be vertebrate or invertebrate animals, plants or unicellular. One of our major purposes is to accelerate scientific communication of high quality research findings, with worldwide open and free access to these findings. Our approach will stimulate research activity and advance scientific knowledge in this field and related ones throughout the world.

Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience

Online, free access: http://www.frontiersin.org/Behavioral_Neuroscience

Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience is a first-tier electronic journal that aims to publish major insights into animal and human behavior, in order to better understand the neural mechanisms underlying behavior. Our journal welcomes papers concerned with the interplay between behavior and neurobiological analysis at all levels: from molecular biology and genetics, to morphological, biochemical, neurochemical, electrophysiological, neuroendocrine, pharmacological, and neuroimaging studies, as long as they contribute to unravel the neurobiological basis of behavior. Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience welcomes work in all animal species, including humans, and integrative and translational approaches combining animal and human research are encouraged. In recent years, translational work has proved to be particularly suitable to address topics and questions related to psychopathology, with outstanding examples showing how animal studies can help identify key genetic mechanisms of behavioral deviation in humans and, conversely, how innovative findings in humans are directing essential work in animals. Our ultimate goal is to accelerate the progress in this research area at a critical time when we are facing multiple challenges: from the need to integrate findings obtained at different levels of analysis to the constant redefinition of topics and approaches that concern and characterize the field of Behavioral Neuroscience.

Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience

Online, free.

Access: http://www.frontiersin.org/Aging_Neuroscience

Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience is a cutting-edge multidisciplinary journal aimed at fostering the understanding of mechanistic processes associated with CNS aging and age-related neuronal diseases. Another central role of the journal is to bring cohesion between disciplines and theories focused on understanding the fundamental processes of senescence. Special emphasis is placed on integrating findings of various sub disciplines in neuroscience to yield translational insight to the aging process and neurological diseases associated with senescence, and developing treatment strategies aimed at the conservation of neuronal function. This aspect is critical to advance our ability to understand, manage, and treat conditions associated with aging. Because of the integrative nature of the journal, the scope of articles that will be considered is broad, and includes work elucidating genetic, biophysical, genomic, proteomic, cellular, molecular, biochemical, endocrinal, immunological, physiological, pharmacological, and psychological/behavioral aspects of CNS aging and neurological diseases and pathological events connected to this process. Neuroimaging studies and clinical studies targeted to mechanistic aspects of neuronal aging/disease are also welcome.
